Design Exploration

Currencies have always intrigued me, so I started looking closer at history and designs. Our relationship with them, and how the tiniest details matter.

My focus was conceptual designs, including repeating patterns, complex shapes, and similarities between old and new currencies. All of which helped shape the mood board.

Final Direction

Each note has a personality thanks to the exposed wiring and embedded NFC chip.

A sleek aesthetic that contrasts old and new. Using bird illustrations and fish scales, a hint of the outdoors, creates a striking visual tension between nature and technology.

Our multi-layered design helps us to set the scene for our audience’s love for nature and technology and helps us to deliver the message effectively.

1️⃣ On the first layer, there’s an illustration of birds, the currency ID, and the color assignment.

2️⃣ A transparent card with an NFC chip and wires is the second layer.

3️⃣ There’s a bird’s shadow, a budding tee tree, company info, and a card number in the background.

The designs all took into account the transparent card with exposed wires.

The guilloche is a decorative pattern from engraving. It’s got spiraled curves intertwined with filigree. The pattern was originally used on banknotes, passports, and certificates.

The pattern was invented in 1775 by Abraham-Louis Breguet.
